If a stranger entered the office during the day then probably you would know. Is the same true of your network? Under the Data Protection Act you have to take all necessary measures to protect customer data. If a Hacker gets in and steals your data, would you know? You may have Anti-Virus software on the PCs and servers but that only deals with the virus once it is on the network this should be stopped at the gateway
VPN security Branch office connections using the internet connections to trading partners all need to be protected. You can control connections to branch office connections, whether one user or many but can you control the trading partners connections and level of protection? VPN (Virtual Private Networks) should have the same level of security protection as your internal network. This can be enforced with the correct equipment
Teleworker security With the growth in demand for remote workers this is the Achilles heel in most organisations. The gateways are protected with firewalls, PCs are behind the firewall but what about the mobile users and teleworker? Teleworkers work from home on ADSL / ISDN lines and should be protected with a firewall of the same protection as the office, but on a smaller scale
